Parent-Teacher E-mail Communication and Directory Please read and click below to continue. The Jefferson Township Publics Schools continually strives to foster communication with parents. Traditional face-to-face conferences continue to serve as the most effective means of communication, much more so than e-mail or telephone conferences. Face-to-face communication allows the reading of facial expressions and body language, and telephone conversations allow both speakers the opportunity to hear voice inflections. Unfortunately, e-mail allows none of these to occur; therefore, it may not always be an effective means of addressing an issue. However, it does have its place in the school environment and communications enhancement. DO’s & DON’Ts Do use the school e-mail system for setting up appointments: phone or face-to-face conferences. Do use the school e-mail only for school business. Do use school e-mail for sharing curriculum links. Do use the school e-mail for good news and compliments. Do understand that response time will vary among staff members due to their assignments. If response time is an issue, please contact the school office. Do understand that staff members may prefer to respond to an e-mail with what he or she considers a more effective means of communication. Do respect the privacy of the correspondent. Remember that e-mail is not secure. It can be forged, copied, forwarded, etc. Do not use the e-mail to request homework information, assignments or grades. These items are requested through guidance or the main office. Do not use the school e-mail for submitting student assignments. They will not be accepted. Do not use the school e-mail for sharing grades or personal information about a student. Do not use the school e-mail for parental authorization such as field trips or early dismissals. Do not use the school e-mail to forward items or send chain letters. Do not add staff e-mail addresses to your personal e-mail address book. Whilst staff members usually check their email regularly, the sender has no way of knowing if a staff member is unavailable due to illness, assignment, holidays, or other reasons. At times, there may be technical difficulties associated with sending and receiving email messages. This means that a message may not be received. If an issue is time-sensitive, one should use the telephone. I AGREE
