This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach one of the following designated world languages in all public schools:
American Sign Language
Chinese
French
German
Greek
Hebrew
Italian
Japanese
Latin
Portuguese
Russian
Spanish
Other world languages.
In addition to the requirements in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-8.1, to be eligible for the CE, CEAS or standard certificate with a world language endorsement, the candidate shall:
1. Possess linguistic competency in the designated world language as demonstrated on a Department-approved, nationally recognized test of oral language proficiency for spoken language, reading/writing proficiency for classical languages or receptive/expressive proficiency for American Sign Language.
2. 2. Complete a minimum of three semester-hour credits in second language acquisition theory and related methodologies offered by a regionally accredited four-year college or university. Elementary school teachers assigned to teach world languages shall comply with the requirements in 1 and 2 above.
