To become a substitute teacher for the Jefferson Township School District, candidates must possess either a valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or a valid Substitute Certificate. If you do not possess a valid Substitute Certificate, the Jefferson Township School District will process applications for candidates who reside in Jefferson Township and who have at least 60 college credits. All candidates who reside outside this area must be processed by their respective District.

If you do not have a valid NJ Teaching Certificate or a valid non-expired Substitute Certificate, please call Jennifer Renninger at 973-663-3157 to request a New Jersey Substitute Certificate direction packet.

• Fingerprinting is the first step and costs $70.25 plus a $7 money order
• The New Jersey substitute certificate costs $125 (money order) and is valid for five years
• In the sub direction packet, it is going to ask you for an “official transcript”.  This means you either pick up your transcript yourself at your college or you have it mailed to us directly.  Official means that you do not open it.  The envelope must be received by Human Resources unopened.

• Copy of NJ State Dept. of Ed. fingerprint approval letter
