200th Anniversary of The Star-Spangled Banner
Our music teacher, Mrs. Courtney, with the help of Miss James, led the whole school, (all dressed in patriotic colors!) in a celebration of the 200th anniversary of The Star-Spangled Banner on Monday, September 15th .  Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from Mrs. Rowe’s class participated in the honor guard by carrying in the flag and leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The program began with trivia such as who wrote The Star-Spangled Banner? (Francis Scott Key) When? (1814 – During the War of 1812) Where? (Baltimore, Maryland) and, who was the president who signed The Star-Spangled Banner into our National Anthem? (Herbert Hoover – but not until 1931!). Afterwards, students led the staff in three of the four original verses. We also learned about the proper way to respect and honor our red, white and blue!
