The Jefferson Township High School Environmental Club won a $2,000 grant for the purchase of matching outdoor recycling and trash containers from the Morris County Clean Communities Council through their “Slam Dunk the Junk” program. To win the award, the club sponsored a school-wide clean up for Earth Day. More than 120 students along with over a dozen teachers, aides, and other staff members spent the afternoon of Thursday, April 21st picking up litter. They collected over forty bags of garbage and thirty bags of recycling. Jefferson was one of over twenty Morris County schools that participated in the program by holding local cleanups in the spring of 2016. All the schools received $500.00 grants for recycling containers. Jefferson was chosen for the added $2,000 grant due to an increase in Clean Communities Grant funding.
