Advanced Placement
May 1, 2026
Our most sincere congratulations are extended to you as you are admitted to the Advanced Placement programs at Jefferson Township High School. One of the expectations of an AP-level student is to not only complete the work but also to go above and beyond what is required to demonstrate excellence and integrity. This, of course, begins during the summer months with the summer assignments. We wish to outline to you some of our expectations as you continue through your AP studies in high school:
- Summer Assignments – You are required to complete the summer assignments. You may find additional copies of the assignment on the district and High School webpage. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact the AP teacher or the department supervisor via email.
- Coursework – All coursework shall be completed on time. Students are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for the advanced study of all courses on the Honors or Advanced Placement level. This is demonstrated through participation in class activities as well as daily preparation for the class.
- Level Change – Students have until June 1st of the current school year to decide whether or not to accept their Honors or AP recommendation. Once that deadline has passed, students are required to stay in the course for the entire first marking period. Please be aware that whatever grade you earn for the first marking period will transfer, as your quarter grade, to your next class if you choose to move to another level.
- AP Practice Exam Requirement- It is required to complete the AP practice test for each AP course in which you are enrolled. The AP practice test grade will be considered your final exam grade for that AP course. If you are not satisfied with the practice exam grade, you can opt to take a final exam in June.
- Grade Requirement – In order to maintain Honors and AP status, you must achieve an 85 average in the course for the year.
It is important for your continued academic success that you consider your decision to be part of the Advanced Placement program carefully. We wish you well in all of your academic endeavors as your K-12 Supervisors.
Educationally yours,
