The STEP-UP Program is a transition initiative developed by the DAWN Center for Independent Living to support students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. Serving eligible students ages 14–21 with an IEP or 504 plan, the program provides pre-employment transition services aligned with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

STEP-UP focuses on building employment readiness through job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, workplace readiness training, self-advocacy instruction, and guidance on postsecondary education and training options. Students participate in a variety of hands-on experiences such as college and corporate visits, job shadowing, internships, workshops, and guest speaker presentations.

The program’s goal is to empower students with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to successfully transition to postsecondary education, training, or competitive integrated employment, while helping students identify career pathways aligned with their interests and strengths.
