The Jefferson Township Middle School is located in northern Morris County in northwestern New Jersey. Our school is nestled between the Rockaway River State Wildlife Management Area and the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, unspoiled, forested park lands home to black bear, deer, and a host of other wild life forms. The school services 705 students in grades six through eight in our K-12, 2,883 student enrolled school district.
Middle School students are placed on one of two academic teams in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. Students receive a well-rounded instructional program which is provided through core courses including language arts, math, science, and social studies as well as health/physical education. In addition, students participate in Spanish or French for three years as well as elective classes such as art, computer science discoveries, family and consumer science, robotics, research and communications, and music as well as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
Special enrichment and co-curricular programs such as Step-Gateways, Showcase, Red Cross and Project Stay Gold as well as Tri-M Music and drama challenge and interest many students. In addition, students at the Middle School are provided with exciting and engaging extra-curricular learning opportunities through high-interest clubs. Students eagerly anticipate the Junior Solar Sprints competition, Debate competition, Spring Musical, and Showcase event scheduled within the school year.
JTMS is also the focal point of community activities which include year round recreational programs, scouting programs, parent activities and community gatherings. For Middle School students, their school is much more than daytime classes. It is an exciting place to be evenings, weekends, and throughout the summer (i.e., Jefferson Township’s Jr. Police Academy training was held in August). In addition, the JTMS Parent-Teacher Association is committed to serving our school’s students and staff. Throughout the year, the PTA raises money and provides support to the school through mini-grants, guest speakers, special recognition programs, book fairs, and activity nights. The Middle School, PTA, and community share a vision to continually improve the curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs offered to our students at JTMS.
