About Us

  • Jefferson Township Middle School is located in northern Morris County in northwestern New Jersey.  The school is situated between two forested parklands, the Rockaway River State Wildlife Management Area and the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation.  JTMS is the only middle school in the Jefferson Township School District and educates 548 students in grades six through eight.

While keeping our motto of Your Story Matters at the forefront of our philosophy, the middle school program is based on a team approach where students are assigned to a grade level core academic team where they receive instruction from highly qualified teachers in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  In addition to the core curriculum, students in sixth and seventh grade participate in an exploratory cycle program where they receive instruction in Spanish, STEM, Robotics, Art, Media Studies, Financial Literacy, and General Music.

Students in eighth grade choose electives that they wish to explore at a deeper level.  These electives include: Art, Band, Chorus, STEM, Robotics, Forensic Science, and Computer Science Discoveries.  In addition, eighth grade students are scheduled for a world language, French or Spanish, that meets daily for a full year.  Students in all grades participate in physical education and health daily and have an opportunity to participate in our award-winning instrumental and vocal music programs.

In addition to our robust curriculum, JTMS has opportunities for students to participate in several service clubs, competition teams, and performing arts programs.  JTMS partners with community organizations such as the Jefferson Township Police Department, Jefferson Township Municipal Alliance and the Jefferson Township Education Foundation to sponsor motivational speakers, recognition programs, social activities, and social awareness programs for our students.

JTMS has a wide range of related services tailored to meet the diverse learning and social/emotional needs of our students.  These include exceptional programs for our special needs population and our gifted learners.  Our school counselors provide a tiered approach to implementing the district counseling curriculum through classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.  Our Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) provides an intensive level of support for students in crises and students in need of additional social/emotional support.

As the building principal, I am very proud of our school’s Vision and Mission and the stewardship of all our stakeholders.
