Our Mission

  • The mission of the Jefferson Township Public Schools Guidance and Counseling Department is to provide an integrated and systematic means of addressing the social, academic and career needs of all students in grades K through 12. Our goal is to provide a proactive program that is sequential and developmental. Consistent with the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards and the national standards of the American School Counselor's Association, Jefferson Township Public Schools present a guidance and counseling program that is an integral part of the school's overall educational program. Through this we seek to establish a collaborative partnership with all families in the district as well as with the community.

All guidance and counseling services are designed to meet the academic, personal/social, and career/vocational needs of all JTPS students and are delivered by the following means:

    • Individual Student Planning Sessions including academic program planning and coordination of activities that support long and short-term goals
    • Responsive Services, such as counseling, consultation with school staff and/or families, referral services, mediation, or information
    • A guidance curriculum that meets age-appropriate developmental goals through individual, large group, small group, and classroom presentations

The Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling program is designed to be both preventative and responsive. We are committed to eliminating the social, emotional and physical barriers to success that students may experience. In this way, we hope to maximize each child’s potential for excellence. The school counselors strive to provide students with the motivation, knowledge and skills to be successful and to thrive in these three domains. Our comprehensive guidance and counseling program is implemented in four separate units, addressing grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. It encompasses the use of many modalities including one-on-one interactions, small group activities, large group discussions, in-class lessons and consultations with teachers, families and community members.
